Spring into Art  Lessons

Wednesdays 4:30 – 5:30pm  March 29, April 5, 19, 26, May 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, June 7.  Ten weeks $130 materials included. 

Spring into art through the joy of drawing & painting while utilizing a variety of quality artists materials.  Warm-ups will consist of spring’s ever changing natural bounty of beauty followed by projects inspired by your artist!  Students will be guided through the artistic process according to each individual’s needs & abilities. Classes will begin with a warm-up “quick-sketch” of a still life, and then transition into varied projects including a few seasonal “surprises”.


 Advanced Art – Foundations of Drawing!

Wednesdays 3:15- 4:15 March 29, April 5, 19, 26, May 3, 10, 17, 24, 31, June 7.

Ten weeks $150 materials included.

Drawing skills create the foundation of all art.  In this course, students will gain experience learning how to see –and think- like an artist through time-tested exercises.  Lessons will develop the artists eye and hand while exposing students to varied art materials.    Ages 11 & up.  Enrollment is limited.  Class is held just minutes from MMS.

Learn to draw! In this class, participants will be exposed to numerous methods and techniques of creating drawings and will gain a working understanding of the process.
Please bring a favorite item for a still life sketch to the first class.

Suggested materials needed: H, 2B, 5B, 8B graphite pencils, kneaded eraser & vinyl eraser (like a staedtler mars plastic or faber-castell dust free); sketch paper 11×14 to 18×24.

Drawing Coffee on Coffee Paper!!
Thursday Morning, June 22nd from 10-1
Instructor: ShawnaLee Kwashnak

Love your coffee? Learn basic drawing skills as you enjoy a hot cup of your favorite coffee while drawing a steaming mug!
Choose or bring your favorite mug, beans etc. Participants will also get to draw their coffee with authentic recycled “coffee bean” artists paper! This toned paper is a perfect blend of fibers from repurposed coffee bean bags!

Participants will be taught methods and techniques of creating drawings and will gain a working understanding of the process. Brief demonstrative sketches by the instructor will highlight challenges as they arise and each participant will be guided according to his or her ability and level of accomplishment and goals.

All materials supplied. Just bring your favorite Coffee Mug! Tea drinkers welcome too!

If you prefer to bring your own supplies: Suggested materials you may need: H, 2B, 5B, 8B graphite pencils, 2B Charcoal black and charcoal white pencil, kneaded eraser & vinyl eraser (like a staedtler mars plastic or faber-castell dust free); sketch paper 11×14 to 18×24. Colored pencils if desired.

Award winning artist, ShawnaLee Kwashnak, loves animals, a warm cup of coffee, and bringing joy to others by creating Portraits of pets and people in Pencils, Charcoals, or Oils. Her cats provide constant critique and companionship to ensure each portrait comes out great. ShawnaLee also renders home portrait in watercolors and creates illustrations for magazines.

She supports animal welfare and has been featured on Pound Posse Presents and Pet Talk TV programs. ShawnaLee has taught art for over 26 years. She is a mother of three, leader of two Girl Scout Troops and shares her studio space with 5 cats, a turtle, and if horses could come inside, the horse too!

Arts Escape, a 501 (c) 3 charitable organization offers adults the opportunity to enhance, create, socialize and continue their education in fine art, crafts, literature and music. Through Arts Escape, adults will commune with their contemporaries with similar interests. Adults will thrive in a positive and creative environment adding value and purpose to their daily lives.

Arts Escape, now located at 88 main street South, will be offering all their programs in their Gallery. They offer continuing arts education programs through lectures and workshops in literature, music, drama, fine arts, and writing.

Young artists soaking in the natural beauty of the pond on a beautiful day!

SATURDAY MORNING *SUMMER* ARTS workshop ~  Youth Art Course.  Spend your artistic time outdoors “en plein air” (in plain air) as artists have for centuries This Summer, students will gain artistic experience using pencils, pen & ink, watercolors, and washes in addition to artisan quality surprises while learning about their natural world.   Continuing artists benefit from reinforced review of artistic techniques while stretching their artistic minds. Artists will be asked to bring a towel, light jacket, visor, water bottle, & sunscreen.

To be held  En Plein Air.    Lessons include Horse anatomy & bone structure, Pencil drawing techniques, and learning how to see like an artist.   Emphasis is on positive personal growth.

 Public Libraries

Pencil drawing techniques along with guided drawing and demonstrations are frequently offered.

PET PORTRAITS

Learn how to draw your pets!  Pet Portrait artist, ShawnaLee, will guide participants of all abilities and ages through the process of pet portraiture.  Students are asked to bring several photographs of their pet along in addition to media of personal choice.  Lessons on how to lay out your composition will be provided along with ample demonstrations from the early sketch, blocking in tone,  to finishing details of fur, nose, and eyes.

 VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL  JUNE
Middlebury Congregational Church    End of June or first week after school ends.  M-F   9-12:15A tremendously successful week of half day camp filled with rich experiences in science, recreation, art, music and theater.  Enrollment is limited.  Register through MCC   http://middleburyucc.org/

Young artists enjoy the bounty and beauty of the bursting colors of spring while trying their hand at varied materials and approaches!

Wednesdays from 4:30 – 5:30pm Youth Art Class.   May through June
Spring into Art as Continuing young artists benefit from more advanced practice and study as we delve into a new set of projects and exercises while learning about varied media.

New students are always welcome and will enjoy learning new techniques among other artists!
Warm-ups will consist of spring’s ever changing natural bounty of beauty followed by projects inspired by your artist!

Fall Into Art  
  • Fall into art  and practice observation while learning the fun-damentals of creating art!   Students will learn to draw what they see through various artists exercises followed by class inspired projects utilizing varied materials and subjects. This course is for the dedicated young artist ages 8 & up. Enrollment is limited. Class is held just minutes from MES.
    • Wednesdays 4:30-5:30 pm
    • 10 weeks: $130 materials included

 GUIDED PAINTING   ShawnaLee would be delighted to guide your group through the painting process.  Want something easy?  Provide your reference photos & ShawnaLee will sketch a canvas for you to paint!

 

ART Lesson Policies:

Art Classes follow the Parks & Rec. policy for attendance, cancellations and scheduling.  If region 15 schools are canceled, art classes will be  canceled as well.  Makeups for weather cancellations or instructor cancellations will be added after the last class or prorated to the next session.

All refunds must be requested prior to the Wednesday before the program begins. There are no refunds once a program begins, except for medical reasons. A doctor’s note may be required. All refunds are subject to a $10.00 administrative surcharge unless otherwise stated.
